Écuries Hanomar was founded in 2000 by Bernard Maltais and his wife, Évelyne Côté. The name of the farm is composed of three particles, HANO, for the Hanoverian horse, the race they had initially decided to breed, MA for Maltais, and R, in memory of Richard, Bernard and Evelyn's deceased son.
Bernard Maltais has always had a passion for horses. In 1995, he took over the operations of the family dairy farm while continuing his career as a physical education teacher. Then, in 2000, Bernard and Évelyne decided to give up dairy production for horse breeding and founded Écuries Hanomar. The dairy farm facilities were transformed in order to accommodate a greater number of horses. Years of dairy farm experience were crucial to Bernard as he developed animal reproduction expertise, which he carried on to horses. The farm started up with three Canadian Warmblood mares. Right from the start, Bernard and Évelyne's main concern was to own genetically superior horses for the best possible breeding results. In 2007, following Évelyne's death, their son Jean-Philippe and Mélanie, his spouse, joined Bernard and endeavoured to further develop the horse breeding facilities and also to create a Learning Stable project. Today, Écuries Hanomar can count on two splendid stallions and two top-level broodmares for embryo transfer, and their reputation is constantly growing. The recent addition of an indoor riding arena has greatly improved the quality of the many activities offered by the farm. |
