The "Warmblood" family of horses emerged when European horses, used for transportation and war, were crossed with their oriental and thoroughbred cousins. Today, the term Warmblood usually refers to a group of athletic horses which have dominated the Olympic Games and World Equestrian Competitions since 1950, in the areas of dressage, as well as obstacle and cross country courses. Between 16 and 18 hands tall, Warmblood horses are at once sturdy and fast. They have exceptional genetics, combining power and elegance. Warmblood races include the Hanoverian, Oldenburg, Trakehner, Holsteiner, Swedish Warmblood, and Dutch |
